Elimination of Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture Project
The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the elimination of child labor in seasonal agriculture, strengthen national and local capacity and provide services to children at risk and their families. In this context, the project, which started in June 2021, continues non-formal education activities in the summer period and formal education activities in the winter period. Within the scope of the project, a Multi-Stage Intervention System (MSIS) was developed.
Within the scope of ÇAMS, children at risk are identified and directed to education, the reasons for dropping out of school are identified, and children who are identified to have traveled to different project provinces are transferred to field teams in the relevant project provinces, aiming to ensure their continuity in access to education within the seasonal agricultural cycle.
In addition, trainings are provided to children and families and in-kind support is provided to support access to education and encourage families to raise awareness on child labor. As other important actors in the field of seasonal agricultural labor, training and information activities are also carried out for producers and agricultural labor intermediaries, and agricultural labor intermediaries are certified. While 2719 children were provided with Hygiene, Health and Safety Trainings, a total of 753 family members were reached through General Family Trainings and 400 family members were given shopping cards.
307 family members participated in Occupational Health and Safety training. A total of 212 agricultural labor intermediaries in Adana, Mersin, Hatay and Şanlıurfa provinces received their certificates after their training. In the provinces receiving migration, 2977 children were identified through 1141 household visits and 2890 of these children were directed to formal and non-formal education activities. In the provinces sending migration, 4881 children were identified through 1671 household visits, and 1095 of these children were referred to educational activities. A total of 6056 children were included in the child monitoring system through household visits, school interviews and follow-up calls.
Within the framework of project activities, children were provided with nutrition, stationery materials and clothing kits within the scope of guidance and counseling. In order to increase access to education, transportation and food support was provided. Meetings were held with local stakeholders before the start of the activities in order to ensure the sustainability of the project activities and to make the multi-faceted intervention effective. Coordination meetings were organized with provincial directorates, school directorates, mukhtars and agricultural business intermediaries to inform local stakeholders about the project and to act on common ground.
The "Elimination of Child Labour in Seasonal Agriculture Project", implemented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (MoLSS) General Directorate of Labor and the International Labor Organization (ILO) Office in Turkey, funded by the European Union (EU) and of which we are the implementing partner, continues in 13 cities.
