Project to Prevent Child Labor in Seasonal Agriculture
“Ensuring that a child does not fall behind in school is not just a matter of intervention; it is a shared responsibility.”
The project, whose overall goal is to contribute to the elimination of child labor in seasonal agriculture, aims to strengthen national and local capacity and provide services to at-risk children and their families.
As part of the project, non-formal and formal education activities are being carried out that can be adapted to both the summer and winter seasons. Through the Multi-Stage Intervention System (ÇAMS) developed within this framework, at-risk children are identified and referred to educational programs, the reasons for their school dropout are analyzed, and measures are taken to ensure that children can continue their education uninterrupted amid seasonal migration patterns.
Educational programs are organized for children and families, and in-kind support is provided to promote access to education and raise awareness about child labor. Information and training activities are conducted for producers and agricultural labor brokers, and agricultural labor brokers are certified.
As part of fieldwork, household visits were conducted in provinces that are both recipients and sources of migration, resulting in the identification of thousands of children, the vast majority of whom were referred to educational programs. Through household visits, school meetings, and regular follow-up processes, the children were enrolled in the monitoring system.
As part of the project, children are provided with food, school supplies, and clothing; transportation and meal support are also offered to improve access to education. Coordination meetings are held with local stakeholders to strengthen collaboration with provincial directorates, school administrations, village heads, and agricultural intermediaries.
