How Education Support Helped the Nasser Family Continue Their Children’s Education in Adıyaman?

Residing in Adıyaman, Türkiye, the Nasser* family remains deeply committed to their children's education despite navigating various life challenges. Through the Cash for Education (CFE) program, funded by the European Union and facilitated by Save the Children Türkiye and Pikolo Association—the family has been able to comfortably support their household needs and ensure their children's uninterrupted school attendance.

The family manages a fluctuating income, as the father's work as a welder is often seasonal.

He demonstrates immense dedication to providing for his family, continuing to work while managing physical health challenges following a herniated disc surgery.

The family has two children who regularly attend school and are actively adapting to their new environment. However, rising rent, utility costs, and education-related expenses increased the risk of educational disruption.

Cash Support to Access Education

With funding from the European Union, Save the Children Türkiye and Pikolo Association provided Cash for Education (CFE) assistance as part of a broader intervention supporting children’s continued access to education following the closure of container settlements.

The support aimed to reduce household-level economic barriers that could negatively affect children’s school attendance and educational continuity.

  • - Cash for Education (CFE) assistance for urgent household expenses
  • - Support for rent and utility payments
  • - Purchase of school clothing and educational materials
  • - Monitoring and follow-up for children at risk of educational disruption
  • - Strengthening family resilience to support school attendance

Through the intervention, the family was able to stabilize part of their financial situation while prioritizing their children’s educational needs.

My children love going to school

The Cash for Education support helped the family reduce immediate financial stress and maintain a more stable home environment for their children.

The Cash for Education support helped the family reduce immediate financial stress and maintain a more stable home environment for their children.

The children continued attending school regularly and remained motivated in their education. The family also became more capable of meeting education-related expenses without interrupting school participation.

By supporting the family during a difficult economic period, the intervention contributed to strengthening educational continuity and promoting a more protective environment for the children.

Despite ongoing challenges, the family remains hopeful about building a stable future in Adıyaman and continuing to support their children’s education.

About the Project

With the financial support of the European Union, Save the Children Türkiye, in collaboration with the Pikolo Association, implemented a comprehensive support programme in Adıyaman for families navigating their transition from temporary container settlements to urban housing. The project provided 208 households with integrated multi-purpose cash and winterization assistance, addressing urgent financial and seasonal needs. Educational continuity was a core priority, achieved by delivering cash for education support and rigorous monitoring for 150 children at risk of dropping out. Furthermore, the initiative strengthened local protection systems by providing specialized case management, counseling, and structured psychosocial sessions for over 400 children and caregivers. By combining these multi-sectoral interventions with the establishment of youth clubs, the programme successfully strengthened long-term resilience for families navigating their relocation.
